Preserve Beautification Project
The Newman Poses Preserve is being beautified by students from Staples High School, who worked with us this spring, and other local companies such as Gault Energy, Oliver’s Nursery and Bart’s Tree Service. Please consider sponsoring materials as we rebuild stone walls, create a natural stone walkway, plant native plants, install a new preserve sign and more.
Aspetuck Land Trust is improving the 39-acre Newman Poses Preserve in Westport. This nature preserve has become a popular destination for locals who like to walk its quiet trails and was made possible by gifts of land by the Newman and Poses families. The preserve is named after actor and philanthropist Paul Newman who lived nearby and enjoyed walking on the property and his neighbor Lillian Poses, an amazing woman in her own right, who was one of the first women to graduate from NYU Law School and worked on the New Deal in the FDR administration. In addition to Staples High School students who worked on the project this summer, we want to thank the following local companies for their help: Gault Energy (gravel and topsoil), Barts Tree Service (tree trimming and removal), Oliver’s Nursery (native plants at cost), and Easton carpenter Dan Magner (new preserve sign).
Please support our efforts by making a donation to support this project and give back to two people who made Westport and our world a better place. We are trying to raise $10,000 to cover our costs. Your donation will be joyously acknowledged in the kiosk on the property and in our annual report. Thank you for your help!
