The short but sweet 2017 blueberry picking season at Trout Brook Valley is coming up. We have loveingly planted, fertilized and through an anonymous donation we are adding netting to a number of rows. We are hoping that our blueberry bushes will regain their former vigor. We will also be planting a new variety of blueberry bushes, chosen by Tom Johnson, this fall. Our order needs to be placed by July 1st. See below if you would like to sponsor a blueberry bush to help our Orchard grow.
MANY THANKS TO ALL OF OUR VOLUNTEERS!!
Your pruning, fertilizing, weeding and mulching has been invaluable!
As a member/supporter of Aspetuck Land Trust you should be proud that your support makes experiences like this and so many other special moments in the woods possible. It is you who we celebrate! We are doing our best to try and keep the blueberry patch productive. We are continuing to consult with fruit experts at the University of Connecticut, conduct extensive soil testing and spread lime, potash and aged woodchips to the rows. We will monitor the patch closely to address any pest issues we encounter. Mother nature does not always cooperate, but we are grateful for your cooperation and support.
