LeGallienne Bird Sanctuary Hike

Ted Lockwood, an experienced plantsman with a particular interest in botany and native plants and is the trail steward of the LeGallienne Bird Sanctuary will lead this special walk.
Ted will discuss the earlier farming use of the property. The donor, Miss Eva LeGallienne’s, original purchase of the property in the 1920’s, and how the woodland has changed since she gifted it to Aspetuck Land Trust in the late 60’s. Aspetuck Land Trust’s work to improve the habitat for the Chimney Swift and other forest-interior birds will also be described, along with other improvements.

Terrain: Moderate, gently hill.

Directions & Parking:
North on Weston Road (State Route 57) past Center; left at flashing light; uphill a half-mile, turn right on Hillside North; left on September Lane.
The trail entrance is through the opening in the split rail fence on the right.
Parking is along the road.
