Invasive Plant Removal September 28th, 2019

  • Aspetuck Land Trust Trout Brook Valley Preserve Bradley Road Parking Area Weston, CT, 06883 United States (map)

Volunteers requested to help remove non-native plant species. Their removal clears the way for local species to reclaim their niche creating a healthy environment for the plants and animals that call our preserves home.

Volunteer tasks include hand pulling, hauling, digging, trimming, and more. This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about ecology and witness a physical transformation of the landscape, which translates into improving our environment and the health of our environment!!

Participants are asked to bring gloves, pruning shears, loppers (& water bottle & bug spray).  Garlic mustard, Exotic Wisteria, Multiflora Rose, Bittersweet, Barberry, and Winged Euonymous will be addressed and volunteers will learn how to identify and "attack" these pesky culprits.

We hope to be able to develop a formalized “I-Team” but also to give instruction on removal methods to those that may want to pull a few invasives on their own when taking a walk at a favorite ALT preserve, in their own yard, or for those who wish to “Adopt A Spot” within Aspetuck Land Trust Preserves to allow wildflowers, for example, from being crowded out.

Training will be provided.
